When should I choose a mechanical clutch over an electromagnetic one?
Mechanical clutches suit applications where actuation is manual or driven by an existing lever/cam mechanism, where very high torque is needed, or where no electrical control is desired. Electromagnetic clutches are preferred for fast, remote, automated engagement.
What is a double-action mechanical clutch?
A double-action clutch can engage drive in either direction (or to either of two outputs) from a central neutral position, useful for forward/reverse or two-speed machine drives.
