Electromagnetic Clutches

Fast, repeatable engagement for cyclic machine drives

Electromagnetic clutches transmit torque on command when their coil is energised, engaging the drive without mechanical levers. Indian Precision Engineers manufactures electromagnetic tooth clutches for synchronous positive drive, multi-disc clutches for high torque in a compact body, and wet-running versions for oil-bath applications. Each clutch is built to your torque, bore and voltage requirements.

  • Tooth, multi-disc and wet-running variants
  • Fast, repeatable electromagnetic engagement
  • Standard 24 V DC coil, custom voltages available
  • High torque-to-size ratio for compact machines
  • Shaft or flange mounting to suit your drive

Domande frequenti

What is an electromagnetic clutch and how does it work?

An electromagnetic clutch connects two rotating shafts when its coil is energised. The magnetic field pulls the friction or tooth members together to transmit torque, and releases instantly when power is removed — giving fast, repeatable, remotely controlled engagement.

What torque ratings and voltages are available?

Our electromagnetic clutches cover roughly 5–2000 Nm with a standard 24 V DC coil. Other voltages (12, 96, 180, 207 V DC) and custom torque ranges are built to order.

What is the difference between a tooth clutch and a multi-disc clutch?

A tooth (positive) clutch engages mating teeth for slip-free synchronous drive, ideal for indexing. A multi-disc clutch uses friction plates to transmit high torque smoothly in a compact body and can engage at speed.
